Today was a good day, I am getting to know my new co workers better and there are shared laughs. <\/span><\/p>\n

I spent most of it going through footage that needed to be gone through, and putting it all together. <\/span><\/p>\n

I convinced my Sgt to let me come on a job today.\u00a0 <\/span>The weather was -53 \u00b0C with the windchill, so knowing we would be bundling up I first ran to use the washroom (that would have been a disaster after being all dressed up) last thing I wanted to do was reenact the Robert Munsch book \u201cI have to go pee\u201d when I came back to the office we began to bundle up, long Johns were already on under my uniform so off came the uniform and on went the fleece, the Arctic weather ski pants the boots with of course wool socks, then we moved to the top, long underwear shirt was on already so on went the fleece, Arctic jacket, balaclava, hat and mitts. I was so warm inside I begged to go outside, once outside I took off the Arctic jacket, the balaclava and the mitts. I was roasting. <\/span><\/p>\n

Once we arrived to our job we come to find out the job is cancelled (bummer) so what does my boss say to me In -53\u00b0C weather? \u201cLet\u2019s go for a walk and search for foxes.\u201d So the two of us take off on a hike down to the frozen river to try to see foxes, the mission of finding them was unsuccessful but we saw a raven and cat tails hahaha.\u00a0 <\/span>Now If you know me I am extremely hot blooded and it takes a lot for me to get cold. Half way through the hike I had to de-layer stop and take off the fleece jacket and the hat, the balaclava was covering my head so that was fine. Once back to the truck off came the jacket and there was steam coming off my shoulders! <\/span><\/p>\n

Before heading back to the shop we went to the ice road, I\u2019ve never experienced an ice road before so it was something new for me, ice roads are amazing, there is a little village that is called Dettah and in the summer it takes over an hour to drive the highway but on the ice road it is 20 minutes to get there.\u00a0 <\/span>There were a few house boats stuck in the ice, and one was not level lol it was leaning back the rear of the house was more in the ice then the front, imagine trying to walk around your house always at a tilt, how do you cook food? Boiling water would be near impossible, everything on your shelves would slide, and sleeping!!!! My sergeant and o have a great laugh over imagining how this poor family is living in the tilted houseboat stuck in the ice. <\/span><\/p>\n

As we continued down the ice road we saw the makings of an ice castle, and the saw some clear ice where you could see how thick it was. We pull over and got out to look at it, it was 5-8 feet deep\u00a0 <\/span>and you could see the shelves in the ice where it froze in layers. What a cool experience!\u00a0 <\/span>The photo I took on my phone one the ice road you cannot see the layers but I will show you anyways. <\/span><\/p>\n
