I learned to cook when I was a wee girl. I learned recipes from generations ago, cooking along side my mother and grandmother, I know a lot of the ins and outs. A lot but not all…..
I was in the middle of a recipe and I needed brown sugar, but it was rock hard and i didn’t have anymore. there was just enough left for this recipe. what do I do? I know the trick of putting a piece of bread in it to soften it. but I needed it now.
I stood there thinking. Hmmmm then I thought it’s like sand. where it gets muddy then softens when it dries. I get excited thinking I have thought of the best solution. I put hot water in the brown sugar bag and let it sit.
After a couple minutes I put a spoon in to scoop out the “MUD” But there was none. Where did it go? then I realize and i burst out laughing at my moment of stupidity. Brown sugar is NOT like sand Of course not, it would never melt in, and would harden in the heat. I have to shake my head at myself! Sometimes even I amaze myself!
