Botswana

Yesterday after we crossed the Botswana border, we had to walk through some chemical thing to disinfect our shoes from the soil of Zimbabwe, then after that we stamped our passports into Botswana and jumped onto the safari trucks, we went on a safari and saw a lot of storks and vultures in the trees lions napping, and elephants walking by our vehicle so closely I would say it wasn’t more than 1 meter away from us, we saw elephants drinking water from the river, many zebras were in the bush as well, and they are so interesting, their black stripes represent the black people and the white stripes represent the white people, and how they can live in harmony, the scientific reason they have the stripes is because the black stripes draw in heat and the white lose the heat so essentially they have a fan going on the entire time.

This morning we got up and headed out to the game drive at 0600, we saw a bunch of giraffes, so we stopped to watch them eat, they are such amazing creatures their hearts are so much lower then their heads that they can only take a drink of water for a short amount of time or they would pass out. Their spots are all different just like our fingerprints, so there are never two the same. Then we saw some mongoose’ they are in the same family as meerkats, after that we saw a lion and she was eating grass by the water, it was beautiful, then we found her pride and drove over to it, they don’t care that we are there because they are used to the cars, it is when someone moves inside the vehicle that it alarms them, because it separates from the one large object that they are used to instead of multiple objects.

Just as we were about to take a break we saw a leopard sleeping in a bush, it wasn’t the easiest to see him but he was there. Insane how well he camouflaged.

We saw two jackles, I didn’t realize that they looked almost the same as coyotes, they are scavengers and don’t attack animals, they look for already dead ones to eat.

In the evening we went on a boat ride through the chobe river, we saw so many monkeys, water bucks, buffalo, Nile crocodiles and elephants. It was a beautiful evening, we sat around and talked, watched the animals, and saw the beautiful African sunset.

Once we arrived back to the hotel we all had a nice dinner together and talked about future trips, this was the last night together and so it was a sweet sadness, I can’t believe the trip is over with the group, hugs and sweet goodbyes were said all around.

We were supposed to leave today to head back to Canada, but the airline cancelled our flight and so I spent an hour on the phone with them to get that figured out, once it was figured out, we are now staying here an extra night, so I wonder what we will get up to for our random extra day here?

Goodnight 🐃
