Steven and Brenda

Isn’t it amazing how you meet people in life, and they stay friends for a long time, well this happened to me when I was a child, I was about 9 when I met Brooke and Mike they were a year younger then me, but we hung out all the time, they would come over, and I would go to their house.  we were apart or created so many shenanigans going on that to this day we still laugh about.  Getting close with the kids, also means the parents become friends too (takes a village to raise children).

Over the years and when I moved away, we lost touch, but we never lost our memories.  It wasn’t until I joined the forces that I rekindled my friendship with Brooke and visited her at her parents house when I was in the area.

With the ability of cell phones, we check in whenever it deems possible, a few years ago when I was in St. John’s Newfoundland, Brenda and Steven were on vacation there, they came down to watch the ship come in, then we went to a café and chatted for a few hours.  They took time out of their vacation to see me, how special is that.

Since that meeting in St. John’s Steven has been diagnosed with ALS, and I wanted to give him the biggest hug, and support him in anyways possible, but all I have been able to do is message and pray.

Well, a couple months ago, I was messaging them and found out they were on a cruise and were making a stop in Halifax! They were here for only 6 hours, and they decided that instead of fitting in what they wanted, they would use up two of those hours to have lunch and catch up with me.  Letting me join them and, introducing me to their relatives who were cruising with them.

I haven’t felt this blessed in a long time to be able to finally give him and his wife a big hug and listen to all they wanted to talk about in person, sitting right next to them, and being able to look into their eyes.  That two hours went by way too fast, and before I knew it I had to leave to go back to work.

Giving them another huge hug, and saying farewells, sucked! However I was so happy to have been able to visit with them for any length of time. Thank you so much for taking time again out of your vacation to see me, it means the world.
