The ground to the skies!

The ground to the skies!

My few days at Victoria falls have been such a whirlwind of adventures. It started with taking a flight from Johannesburg to Victoria falls Zimbabwe, once we landed we hopped into the bus and headed straight to Victoria falls, after we arrived there, we got out and walked across the bridge stepping foot on the bridge we were in Zimbabwe, and stepping off the bridge we were in Zambia. We had some lunch and then we did some adrenaline things, I myself did zip lining across the gorge with Victoria falls behind me. The heights of the gorge is 110 meters high Others did bungee jumping and bridge swing.

After that we went to Victoria falls and walked the path to see different angles of the falls, it was beautiful, and the mist cooled us all off, it is so hot here that I am constantly dripping of sweat. At one of the lookout spots there was a huge vine and of course I had to try it, one cannot see a Tarzan vine and not try swinging with it, I grabbed onto it and did a few jumps to make sure – Tarzan vine

The event after that was an evening at a theater, it was an amazing production put on by the local Africans here in Zimbabwe, they danced and reenacted the story of their heritage, there was betrayal, courage, protection, dominance and of course love, I was enthralled with it the entire time, it was so amazing to see the story come to life.

Zimbabwe day 2
The next morning we went to visit a village, our driver was the most amazing man, he called himself el presidento, his name was TJ but we all called him the other name, he told us all about growing up in this country and about his language,  there was a word you say which is Qoki – knock knock when you want to enter into someone’s homestead.
To say Qoki you have to click the Q sound, I practised the whole way there and even though I still sucked at it he was so proud of me and said I was a apart of their tribe now, and gave me the African name Ndlovu – Elephant, I sure felt special, once arriving at the village we were told about it. They build mud huts with thatched roofs, a husband and his wife build the kitchen hut first, then they build their hut next, after that they build one hut for the girls and one for the boys. They are very spiritual with having a healer and they fear

In the evening we went River cruise, we went down the river watching the sunset and looking for animals, the first thing we saw was a crocodile, it was hidden so well that you could barely see it there, I got a great photo on my camera, then as we went further down the river we saw three hippos, the middle one was under water and then came bounding up and opened his mouth so wide, it was such an amazing show to see. One of the things I really wanted to see was a hippo opening his mouth and o got to see it.

Once the river cruise was finished we immediately went a boma, centred on traditional Zimbabwean food and entertainment meant. I at the Mopane worm, this is a caterpillar like worm that is very high in nutritions, it was not the best thing to eat but it also was not horrible, some of the other foods I ate was antelope, buffalo, crocodile, goat, and beef, it was all super delicious. Then after there was a drumming session, they handed everyone an African drum and we had to repeat after them and learn to play it, I LOVED bashing around on it. After we did that for awhile there was a dance party and even though I couldn’t dance worth a toot I still went and tried, I had a lot of fun.

After returning to where we were staying there was this hippo just walking about eating grass, it is so neat to see!

Zimbabwe day 3
This morning we woke up early and went on a walking safari this was really neat because we were able to get close to some of the animals, we saw a dung beetle and watched it squirm about, then we saw a giraffe so we walked over near to it and it wasn’t more than 50 yards away at the closest, it was so cool, he was watching us walk and then after deciding we were a threat he went back to eating the leaves. They are such majestic animals.

Once that was done we did a helicopter ride over Victoria falls, this was so neat to see the falls in it’s entirety from the sky, it is just about to begin wet season here so the falls were at their lowest in water, it was still absolutely amazing though, we flew over the gorge and around the land some to look for animals, where we saw elephants. It was super neat to see them from the sky.

Once that amazing ride was complete we hoped into the vans and drove just over an hour to Botswana.

That is where I will leave this now, and tell you all about Botswana in a couple days,

I can’t believe this amazing trip is almost over!

Goodnight 🐘
